A well established plastic injection molding contract manufacturing company is searching for an Automation Engineer.  The Automation Engineer is involved from; project conception, equipment specifications, quotations, through the full scope of project management until proven production ready.  The Automation Engineer's main focus and responsibility lies in design of manufacturing cells, end-of-arm-tooling design for robotics, integration of robotics and work cells and design of automation.  This position also is responsible for continuous improvement, robotics and cell support while in manufacturing.
 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Identify areas of waste in our manufacturing processes to include but not be limited to scrap and reject reduction, equipment downtime, earned hours per employee and process/equipment changeovers.
  • Prioritize and manage projects and tasks necessary to deliver to the need of the customer(s). Efficiently utilizes available resources and engineering tools.
  • Properly analyzes, develop and procure all aspects of a project from inception through successful completion for the life of program.
  • Generate processes that are robust and exceed the criteria established by customer while supporting the company's financial metrics.
  • Leverage the available engineering resources and software to understand our manufacturing processes and data so that accurate decisions can be made.
  • Generate clear and concise standard work instructions and other technical documents that are appropriate for the end user. 
  • Troubleshoot and maintain custom electromechanical equipment, automated work cells, vision systems, and multi axis robots.
  • Create and de-bug PLC programs with varying levels of complexity.
  • Develop, understand, implement/integrate and program vision related programs in work cells.
  • Integrate robots and automated equipment for manufacturing needs.
  • Initiate and complete technical activities leading to new and improved production processes.
  • Must be able to program and operate a robotic cell and train accordingly.
  • Will provide technical assistance and guidance to other robotic operators.
  • Analyze and evaluate manufacturing methods and provide solutions to problems that adversely affect costs, operator safety, productivity and quality.
  • Purpose cost justifications to receive project approvals.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelors of Science in Manufacturing Engineering preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in robotics and automation.
  • Previous experience in an injection molding environment is preferred but not required.
  • Self-motivated to adapt to changes in a fast paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands. 
  • Strong organization of documentation.
  • Ability to exercise strong judgment in analyzing, evaluating and solving problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Strong team player. 
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office) and solid modeling preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
