Engineering Group Manager - Distribution Planning
We are seeking a Group Manager for the System Planning and Analysis Group of a well-established engineering firm. MUST HAVE electric utility system planning and analysis experience and proven management experience. This position is for a “working manager” and entails performing engineering work, managing the group, developing strategy and vision and defining services for the group as well as developing business.  The person hired will have the autonomy and authority to develop and grow the people, services and market for the group in concert with company objectives. NOTE: This role requires prior experience with distribution planning. We will entertain someone that is focused in distribution, transmission, or both. We would also entertain a candidate that has a mix of planning and system protection experience.
  • Lead the System Planning and Analysis Group including strategy, vision, and day-to-day management.
  • Provide planning and analytic services to clients in the electric utility industry.
  • Provide exceptional client services with effective and enthusiastic business development for our System Planning and Analysis related services.
  • Work directly with clients and provide services such as:
    • Propose, develop, scope, estimate, communicate, execute, and complete projects within budget.
    • Manage, coordinate, review and perform QA/QC on projects.
    • Perform power system planning and analysis evaluations.
    • Perform rate and sectionalizing studies.
    • Support customer requests for special evaluations and studies involving electric power system products, engineering and economics.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Professional Engineer license (must have passed both the EIT/FE and PE exams).
  • Work experience in electric utility industry, minimum ten (10) years, primarily in system planning and analysis.
  • Experience with long range planning studies as well as short range plans or construction work plans.
  • Experience with most of the following; distribution sectionalizing coordination, rates, system modeling, special equipment application, underground line design, aerial line design.
  • Experience with software modeling and analysis tools such as Milsoft Windmil (or CYME), SKM Power Tools, ASPEN, PSS/E and/or ETAP in developing models and using results to develop results and recommendations.
  • Experience with rural electric systems and/or municipal systems and experience with industrial systems would be beneficial.
  • Experience can be a combination of distribution and transmission planning, with protection experience being a plus.
  • Proven experience in developing business and retaining clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with highly technical staff and manage multiple tasks and objectives.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed within the continental U.S.
  • Must be authorized to work in US.
